Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme: step by step guide for employers
I've never applied for Universal Credit before. What do I need to do?
The Minimum Income Floor has been temporarily relaxed during the Coronavirus outbreak. This change applies to all Universal Credit claimants and will last for the duration of the outbreak.
You can apply for universal credit if you or your partner do not have more than £16,000 of savings (anything over £6,000 will reduce what you are eligible to receive.)
You can do this even if you furlough yourself. In some cases Universal Credit payments can be getting on for above £1500 a month and this is not taxed. If you are eligible to be furloughed and able to access Universal Credit we recommend applying for both as you will generally be better off.
