Rawcliffe & Co's New Office in Poulton
We're thrilled to announce that Rawcliffe & Co has opened a second office in Poulton!
JD Mercer’s office on Chapel Street in Poulton will stay open, undergo re-branding, and be run under the management of director Joseph Tantram. The previous owner, John Mercer is semi-retiring but will continue to work part-time alongside Joseph and the Rawcliffe's Team.
Joseph said: I am really looking forward to working from the Poulton office. I live in Poulton with my boys, it’s a great place as there’s something for everyone. I'm especially looking forward to meeting our new clients; social distancing requirements permitting of course.
The acquisition of JD Mercers was an excellent opportunity to expand and offers greater accessibility for our clients based in Poulton and over Wyre. We want to make assurances to clients of JD Mercers that we will do our upmost to ensure a smooth transition and look forward to working with them going forward.
John Mercer on his career in Accountancy...
John Mercer qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1972 during his time with the Accountancy firm Aspinall's, for whom he began working for aged 18. He then branched out and went to work for a conglomerate called BTR Industries for 5 years.
John said: I was spending more and more time in London as I was required to attend a lot of meetings down there. I am from Poulton and have always liked being here. In 1979 when I was 29 years old I decided to start my own business.
John worked from home until 1981 when he moved to offices on Breck Road in Poulton above what used to be a camping shop called "Out & About." John remained in these offices until 1998 when he got the chance to buy another Accountancy Firm, Bleazard & Co, along with the building on Chapel Street from where he ran his business for the next 22 years.
John said: During my time working for BTR I built up a lot of connections and so in addition to those based locally I also gained a lot of clients from all over the UK; many of whom I acted for- for over 20 years.
John is retiring but will continue to act for a small number of personal tax clients. With more free time available to him, we asked John what retirement holds....
I'm a keen golfer and look forward to having more time to play. My wife and I love travelling to the Lake District for days out and spending winters in our holiday home in Tenerife. I also have 3 grandchildren who live in Cheshire so there will be more opportunities to visit them as well as travelling to Vancouver to see my son.
I'd like to thank my clients for their support over the years. We've had some happy times and lots of fun!
